Tomates/Argentina: producción afectada por condiciones climáticas
Harvesting of processing tomatoes has ended in Argentina’s western province of Mendoza, with the industry now worried about the knock-on effects of low production and poor crop quality on the domestic processing sector in Mendoza and neighbouring San Juan province.
Severe weather during the entire season is responsible for most of the damage caused to this year’s tomato crop, although an official estimate of the losses is yet to be announced. Many industrial tomato plants suffered frost damage initially, and then later in the season wind and torrential rain cause further injury, reported San Juan daily Diario de Cuyo.
