South African food retail sales totaled U S. $39.8 billion in 2020 a decrease from 2019 due to the pandemic. Imports of all agricultural products in
2020 decreased by 6 percent to U.S. $6.0 billion.

The sector is well developed and aggressively expanding into other African countries.
