Nov. 4, 2011Productores esperan que la producción exceda 850 toneladas
The president of the Producers Integrated Cooperative of Cherries in Gaiman (groups 70% of production throughout the Valley), Julio Kresteff, said that fruit production this year would be around the 850 thousand tons.
He also spoke of the vital need of having a place to load everything for international product output, as well as placing on the market, currently China, the U.S. and Europe, and the impact of ash.
In a talk held with the Chubut, Kresteff said that 2011 has been an “optimal year
so far. It’s been a year that we haven`t had frost, just the ashes that have fallen across the area, but it hasn`t affected us,” but it could, the harvest could get ruined, if it persists. Then he spoke of the estimated production for this season, which he said: “We in the Cooperative calculate for this year to be around 850,000, 900,000 kilos. Last year we got around 600 thousand kilos or so. This year by
having more people, the idea is to reach a million, million and a half kilos in the
Cooperative.”
To reach that figure special equipment has been purchased to speed up work
classification. “We have gotten an electronic machine that is traveling at this moment by boat from Spain, the latest generation, which makes sorting electronically and that will allow us to be more accurate at the time of the sale,” said the producer, after which he added that “with all this equipment we will be able to process and sell” in relation to the number of kilos to be processed. Asked about the
nucleation of Valley producers in that entity, explained that “this year we
calculated to have 70 percent of the valley production in the Cooperative.”
Placing on the market
With regard to the installation of fine fruit for sale, it was noted that “we have the
buyers and we are going to make some deliveries to China which is a market that we
we did two years ago,” as well as Europe and the United States.
