The season started well for the melon, but ended badly. There was a big and good production, but the prices have gone down a lot. Due to the low temperatures in July the production decreased, but there was an important demand. The opposite happened to the grape. There is a lot of supply, but no demand. The supply of grapes was even stopped. The yellow kiwi, also an important fruit from the region, fell victim to a bacteria, that no one has been able to stop yet.
There has been a noticeable decrease in the area and production of the orchard cultivation in the past few years. Due to the extreme weather conditions it’s become worse this year and only the apricot and the cherry seem to have withstood it all. A small ray of light for the plum growers: the encouraged return of the American-Japanese plum.
