SALES of Californian raisins to the UK are “predictably down” as a result of the economic crisis, FOODNEWS has been told. Buyers, increasingly focused on cost, have being looking to cheaper suppliers closer to home such as Turkey, despite the clear difference between both dried grape products.
The UK’s extensive baking industry, which absorbs a significant portion of the country’s raisin imports, is often satisfied with either product, since the distinctive tastes of both dried grapes are reduced significantly when baked
