Jul. 10, 2011Esperan cosecha 2011 de 418 millones de kilos
A very good harvest is expected in 2011. The quality of the apples and pears will be exceptional because of the favourable weather conditions.
Compared to the 2010 harvest the expectation is, that the apple harvest will be bigger in 2011. A harvest of 418 million kgs of apples is expected this year against 334 million kgs in 2010. The pear crop of 300 million kgs is expected to be 9% bigger in 2011 than last year. The bigger harvest is mainly the result of good growing conditions.
With apples there will mainly be more Jonagold (+39%). Also Elstar (+14%), Golden Delicious (+15%), red Boskoop (+21%) and of the new club varieties a bigger crop is expected. With pears the expectation is a slight increase in area. Thanks to good circumstances during the period of growth the Conference crop will be 12% bigger than last year. Of Doyenné du Comice and the other pear varieties, including the new variety Sweet Sensation, a crop is expected which is comparable to last year.
In general the growing season has been good this year. There is talk of a higher fruit weight than last year. The period of cell division went well, which is a good basis for the quality of the fruit and the durability. The quality of the apples and the pears will be good as a result. A number of companies have suffered hail damage, which has led to very severe damage in some cases. On the total crop hail will only have a slight influence.
