Francia: oferta de frutas y hortalizas procesadas es superada por demanda
France’s trade deficit in processed fruits and vegetables worsened in 2012, according to the latest statistics from the country’s agriculture ministry. Domestic production is failing to meet increased consumer demand, especially in the fruit juices sector, where production in recent years has grown strongly but is still outstripped by demand.
Chips, purées, slices, sauces, jams, preserved, frozen, dried, juice are all forms of processing and in 2012, production of such processed fruits and vegetables accounted for 4% of French food output, by value. The ministry notes that this is small compared with meat (21%), beverages (20%), or dairy products (16%). One chief problem, it says, is the seasonality of much raw material required by processors.
