Exportación 2010/11 creció 40%
Blueberries experienced a rise in exported amounts, going from 49,928 tons in 2009/10 to 69,704 in 2010.11. The receiving market with the biggest growth was North-America with 43%.
According to official figures reported last week by the Association of Chilean Fruits Exporters (ASOEX), blueberry exports grew in every destination market by 39.6%, during the 2010/2011 season.
Meaning, they managed to export 69,704 tons of blueberry, representing an important increase to the 49,928 tons exported in 2009/2010.
The United States are the market that registered the biggest growth, with 43%, going from 40,842 tons in the last season, to this season’s 58,386 tons. Blueberry represents 7% of the total exported Chilean fruit to the US.
Blueberry exports to Canada also grew up to 681 tons.
Regarding the starting season (2011-2012), the president for ASOEX, Ronald Bown, underlined the opening of the Chinese market to Chilean blueberry. “In China, our blueberry has many opportunities, conditioned by the Chinese tendency to consume food with high nutritive properties, this fruit’s properties, the retail development in the area, the raise in consumption and the buying power, among other things”.
To underlined that, in the Asian market, Chilean blueberry exports grew 30.6%, going from 1,481 tons in 2009/2010 to 1,934 tons in 2010-2011.
In the European market, blueberry had a 21% growth, going from 7,126 tons in 2009/2010 to 8,622 tons.
In the Netherlands, imports reached 4,009 tons, in England 4,176 tons, Spain with 195, Italy with 80, Germany 108, France 41 and in other European countries imports reached 7 tons.
Finally in the Middle East, imports of Chilean blueberry grew 532,5%, while in Latin America shipments reached 66 tons.
Exports by Origin Region
Main exporting regions for blueberry are VII and VI, regions with a production between 22,351 tons and 5,856 tons respectively.
As for region II, it managed a production of 18 tons, region IV managed to get 619 tons and region V, 4,442 tons. In the Metropolitan region the present production was of 2,622 tons. While in the remaining regions the production was of 33,796 tons.
