The crop report shares crop projections, shipment departure and arrival information, weather updates and other information pertinent to the Argentinean crop by growing region, allowing U.S. retailers to plan berry promotions for fall accordingly. Once the season is underway, the committee will provide actual exported volumes and projections on a regular basis.
ABC Committee Manager Inés Peláez said the Argentinean blueberry season begins in the Tucuman region, followed by Concordia in October and finishing in the Buenos Aires region in November when Argentinean blueberry season reaches its peak.
Direct-flown to stores via the newly launched “blueberry route,” Argentina’s blueberries are the first off-season product to reach the U.S. market, extending the fresh season from fall into winter.
This year, Argentinean growers will export more than 11,000 tons of blueberries to the U.S. by air and sea. In the past five years, Argentina’s blueberry exports to the U.S. have tripled with the majority of Argentinean-grown blueberries entering the U.S. through the Port of Miami.
ABC will participate at PMA this year as part of a national Argentinean pavilion (booth #4847).
