The following communication, received on 15 December 2011, is being circulated at the request of the Delegation of the United States.
_______________
Allowable Level for Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) in the Quality Standard for Bottled Water |
On 19 October 2011, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a final rule establishing an allowable level of 0.006 mg/l for the chemical di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) in the quality standard for bottled water. As a consequence, in accordance with FDA’s current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulations for bottled water (21 CFR part 129), bottled water manufacturers will be required to monitor their source water and finished bottled water products for DEHP. The final rule is published in the Federal Register at 76 FR 64810 (available in English). Text may be found at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2011-10-19/pdf/2011-26707.pdf.
This action is subsequent to a notice of filing published in the Federal Register on 1 April 2010 (75 FR 16363) reopening the comment period for a proposed rule to establish an allowable level for DEHP, published on 4 August 1993 (58 FR 41612). |
