Duraznos/Sudáfrica: productores alertan sobre la importancia de reemplazar árboles viejos
THE Canning Fruit Producers’ Association (CFPA) of South Africa highlighted the importance of replanting old trees in a recent newsletter. Old, unhealthy trees are not being replaced at a sufficient rate, the CFPA warns. It also commented on the importance of fruit fly and soil management.
Canneries will be processing the end of this season’s pears and fruit cocktail over the next two weeks. Exports have been “steady with no drastic dips”, one source said. There has been a good climate this season and one contact said that 95-98% of operations had experienced no problems with labour. Some farms have arranged skills courses for their labourers.
