Crimea: Precio de tomate baja a la mitad del registrado el año pasado
Over the past weekend, from Saturday 30 July to Sunday 31, the price of tomatoes sharply dropped at Crimean wholesale markets. According to Fruit-Inform, current prices fixed by sellers at Krymskiy Privoz Wholesale Market, Simferopol, are half as high as those registered at the end of the past week.
For the moment, prices of field-grown tomatoes vary between RUB 15-20/kg (USD 0.22-0.30/kg), and greenhouse produce are offered at no higher than RUB 30/kg (USD 0.45/kg). For comparison, minimum prices stood at RUB 30/kg closer to the past weekend.
The market operators connect a fall in prices with a significant rise in the supply of field-grown tomatoes against a background of moderate demand. Furthermore, Crimean wholesalers actively purchase tomatoes from Krasnodar Krai, and this fact only aggravates the situation.
Current prices of field-grown tomatoes are similar to those fixed in Crimea a year before, while greenhouse produce has become 25% less expensive year-on-year. The Crimean market participants also expect the negative price trend to remain in effect in the nearest time.
