Corea del Sur: Actualización a la ley especial sobre la inocuidad de los alimentos importados
With implementation of the Special Act on Safety Management of Imported Food (hereinafter referred to as the Special Act: GAIN KS1609) by the Ministry of Food & Drug Safety (hereinafter referred to as MFDS)in February 2016, all foreign food facilities including livestock facilities that process or pack and export food products to Korea are required to pre-register.
Food products include processed food products, agricultural products such as grains, fruits, health functional food, fishery products, food additives and food packages/containers/equipment. The final processor of food products and packers of agricultural products shall be registered by MFDS prior to import declaration. As of March 28, 2018, a total of 57,860 foreign food facilities (excluding livestock, dairy and egg plants) have been registered with MFDS.
Of these, 5,332 facilities are U.S. based food facilities. Registration is valid for 2 years. Any foreign food facilities that wish to renew their registration need to submit an application for renewal to MFDS through the on-line registration system. Renewal of registration may be initiated within 30 days before the registration expires. Please see Section II for information on there newal process.For livestock, dairy and egg plants, the registration is valid unless it is revoked for cause. Thus, no renewal is required.
