Chile: Las frutas de carozo se recuperan de las heladas de 2013/2014
This year, the Chilean stonefruit season has begun earlier than expected. While in the last five seasons the first shipments departed on week 46, this year did it on week 44, with the first exports of nectarines. This was caused by weather conditions, specifically, hot spring days that allowed the fruit to ripe early. More in detail, the nectarines have started three weeks earlier, while peaches and apricots two weeks earlier.
The stonefruit were the most affected species by the heavy frost that occurred in Chile in September 2013. However, according to the iQonsulting estimate, this season will experience a total recovery on the shipment volumes, to levels reached before the frost. The Plums will lead this recovery, while peaches and nectarines will record a smaller increase compared to the previous season.
