Jul. 18, 2012Cerezas/China: producción 2012 se estima a la baja en 20% debido a malas condiciones climáticas
CHINESE fresh cherry production is forecast down almost 20% due to poor weather. This is expected to lead to higher import volumes, according to the latest report by the USDA.
Heavy rains in the Shandong province during the flowering period caused the 20% drop for a forecast 170 000-tonne crop. Produce will be on stream late due to low spring temperatures, but the fruit, when it does come, will be of a good quality. Farm gate prices doubled year-on-year to USD4.10 per kilo due to lower production in Yantai.
