Arándanos/EE.UU: producción 2013 superaría la del año pasado, que alcanzó 72 millones de libras
Oregon growers last year produced 72 million pounds of blueberries, making it the State’s largest fruit crop. The take is likely to get even larger this year, which is good news for Northwest berry consumers.
As Oregon Public Broadcasting reports, the Northwest blueberry crop this year is so substantial that farmers say prices are declining after about a decade of rapid expansion.
“We’re having just record volumes of blueberries,” said Alan Schreiber, the head of Washington’s Blueberry Commission, according to OPB. Washington last year produced 70 million pounds of blueberries, a record that is expected to grow to 80 million this year, he said.
Oregon last year produced 72 million pounds of blueberries — up from just 54.6 million two years earlier. That crop had a value of $107.6 million, according to data from the US Department of Agriculture.
