The California Almond objective forecast of 1.85 billion meat pounds for the 2013–2014 crop year was announced on July 1. The forecast, funded by the Almond Board of California (ABC), is administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service – California Field Office (NASS/CFO). According to the USDA-NASS, California Field Office, the forecast is based on 810,000 bearing acres.
“The objective estimate is 150 million pounds, or 7.5%, below the subjective estimate issued by NASS in May,” said Richard Waycott, president and CEO of the Almond Board. “Total supply for 2013–2014 will be constrained if the 2013 actual harvest is indeed ‘only’ 1.85 billion pounds,” he added. “The estimate issued today by NASS is only slightly below the actual 2012 harvest of 1.89 billion pounds.”
