Arándanos/EE.UU: lanzan 2 nuevas variedades en Oregon

Each year, Oregon Blueberries look available material in our own development program and those of our breeding partners to offer the finest selections available. Of course, many varieties from the past continue to set standards for certain quality or timing measures and earn their place on the new year’s roster.

This year the company launched a new blueberries variety to the market:

Arcadia

FL07-399 (Proposed: Arcadia) FL07-399 is a low chill (< 200 chill hours 0 to 7°C), mid-season maturing genotype adapted to production regions in central and south-central Florida. The key positive attributes for FL07-399 are:

• High yield when grown in an evergreen management system.
• Peak production in central and south central Florida during high value market window.
• Large fruit size, sweet flavor.
• Excellent survival and leaf disease tolerance.
• Low yield in northern areas of Florida.
• Very long harvest season when grown as an evergreen plant.
• Fruit firmness just meets program minimum (but no apparent packing/postharvest problems).
• Vigorous, spreading growth habit may make machine harvest for fresh market difficult.

Cultivar name: Avanti (selection code FL06-203)

Recommended for Florida: yes

FL region best adapted to: central and south-central Florida

Production system: evergreen

Hydrogen cyanamide: not recommended

Machine Harvestability: No data yet. Its firm berries should allow it.

Per plant yields (Density 1,452-1,742 plants/acre):

• North-central FL (2018-2020): 2.5 – 7.0 lbs/plant, average 4.1 lbs/plant

• Central FL (2013-2014): 2.8 – 4.6 lbs/plant, average 3.7 lbs/plant

• South FL (2020): average 5.3 lbs/plant (reported by grower)

Known insect damage susceptibility: susceptible to southern red mite damage

• Fruit firmness: 178 – 275 g/mm, average 224 g/mm, higher than Emerald, similar to Farthing

• Berry Weight: 1.6 – 2.6 grams, average 2.2 grams, similar to Emerald

• Berry Diameter: 16.2 – 19.7 mm, average 17.2 mm, similar to Kestrel

• Brix: average 9.5 – 13.8, average 12.0, higher than Emerald, similar to Kestrel
